Jimmie Kairu.
The first goal in the first 23rd minutes helped Gor Mahia Football Club to be victor’s over Thika United with a one nil match played at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
Habil Otieno, was the player who scored the goal making and stirring up the Gor mahia fans who had been silenced before by the way Thika United was playing.
Otieno was a little disturbance to the united post as his attempts were either caught by the former national Keeper David Okello or intercepted by the great Thika United Defenders like Stephen Ochieng who defended extremely well.
The goal came when Steve Biko drove into the box then passing the ball to Habil Otieno on his right for the striker to shoot at close range banking it behind the net.
Gor Mahia Keeper who was recently called up for the National squad Jacktone Odhiambo saved his team from numerous attacks which were made leading the whole team to play a defensive match.
More so Jacktone Odhiambo could have been confused for an upcoming acrobat when he was frustrating the Uniteds strikers with his exclusive jumps and punches which made the fans more and more exited.
Joseph Mwangi had missed a lot of immense opportunities a header in the 20th minute which would have seen united in the lead and also a shot on the bar after a brilliant drive for goal during the 54th minute.
Antony Ivan Maimba shot on goal which was punched by the keeper sent signals to the Gor side made the hosts go back to defense.
Peter Opiyo played an exciting game for television and the way he used to dribble the ball right into the box made him noticed by all for his great skill and composure is what enabled him to play his part well. Abdalla Abdalla was also on point with his accurate supplies to Dennis as well as John Mwangi at the front.
Denis Odhiambo’s presence on the pitch could not have been missed as he nearly got a penalty for the visitors side when he was fouled inside the box but the referee would have none of it and Gor held on to claim three vital points.
On the other hand the Under 20 Stephen Waroro had his series of missed opportunities, and it was evident that the whole of United supporters wanted him to equalize as they were calling up his name all along, he played a very composed game and also managed to crack through the defense but Jacktone was always very careful.
“We played well but couldn’t manage to score our fate is clear now and we can see a brighter future for football in Kenya, next time we’ll win for sure” said one of the United supporters tears dripping from his eyes.
Thika united was privileged to be accompanied by there hundreds of fans from Thika and From Brookside their main sponsor who cheered them to the very end. The Deputy Prime Minister Honorable Uhuru Kenyatta and, Juja Member of Parliament Honorable George Thuo were there to greatly support the club that played a very fantastic game.
