Thika United Beat Home Grown In a Highly Contested Friendly
By: Jimmie Kairu

Thika United kept alive their loads of chances of a title restoration with a crushing 5 – 0 victory at Thika Municipal Stadium against Home Grown over the week-end.

Goals from James Omondi, Joseph Mwangi, Dennis Odhiambo, Crispin Orlando, Edwin Kosgey who influenced an own goal was enough to see the visitors off.

The hosts had looked lively earlier even before the game started and all they had to do is make those finish to psyche them up for their next match.

Once they had roused them selves from the brave start, United took charge and could have many goals than the near half dozen they registered

Dennis Odhiambo’s shot against Home Grown hogged the fans and Uniteds bench but James Omondi’s strike was the highlight of the afternoon as the International striker once again took the eye.

The victory puts Thika United morale a notch higher as they prepare to face Western Stima this weekend at Bukhungu Stadium and it also gave coach Juma hope that his boys are still just about registering a pulse in the on going Kenya Premiere League.

Before the match Coach Juma had anticipated to play James Omondi and Ambrose Kamau while also play Roy at the back. Seaking to thikaunited.com news desk, the coach said that he wanted to see how the three could cope in game delivery and he was as good as his words.

Fans started streaming in as early as two o’clock, some were still disappointed at the loss to Agro – Chemical but still were dying hard for the free entertaining match as they cheered and enjoyed all the way.

The game started well with the home side trying to secure an early lead, this was evident when Dennis Omino pass into the box was headed by Ambrose who took the header but it was punched out by the keeper. All in all the visitors would have opened the lead in the 13th minute when Victor Orukas shot on goal hit the side bar as the goalie Lucas Owira was left flat footed.

Then the seventh minute all hell broke lose when James Omondi’s attempts started scaring the keeper, the first was a header which hit the top bar, the other was a shot from 20 yards which was off target and the other was yet another header which hit also hit the side bar.

But in the 25th minute a cross from Dennis Omino from the left flank is all that Omondi had been waiting for, his header was effectively calculated, strategically placed behind the net leaving the fans over excited.

Home Grown were now rattled, Omondi escaped seconds later, giving the possibility of Abdalla Abdalla to pass the ball to Joseph Mwangi and instead of setting it for the Un marked Ambrose, he slotted the ball wide.

It would have proved a costly mistake, but Abdalla Abdalla was there to rectify it when Victor Oruka once again attacked beating the defenders and chipping the ball over the committed keeper and luckily Abdalla was there for the rescue.

In the 42nd minute Joseph Mwangi banked the second goal after a deflection back to him by the keeper and he had to bank it right the second time and he did completely remarkable job.

United slipped into full control in the second half giving no room for mistakes and no pressure from the bench for they delivered as it had been packaged by Juma making them display the striking capability that had undermined their campaign towards the league title in the previous match.

Dennis Omino blazed over and Abdalla stung the Home Grown keeper from 30 yards as Thika United chased for the lead. They found it in spectacular fashion 15 minutes from the break, Ambrose lofted pass into the area, Geoofrey Muhando slipped away from his makers relaxed the ball down and having no room for a clear shot he placed it to Dennis Ominos’ left foot driving the ball into the net, leading it to the inevitable third goal.

It was now a procession for united; they could create chances at will while the visiting team were a shadow of the competitive side that had started the game.

James Omondi was substituted for Paul Anunda and Joseph Mwangi for Edwin Kosgey. Anunda spurned a couple of chances to add a fourth but the game seemed to be meandering to a close, having got a clean opportunity; Kosgey was fouled inside the box by a frustrated Kelvin Omondi, which led to a penalty clearly taken by Crispin Orlando who came in as a replacement for Stephen Ochieng, banking it to the far end of the net leading it to the fourth goal.

It was two minutes to time mindless than 90 seconds when Ambrose supplied the ball into the box nd Castone Kimtai deflected it into his own net leading to an own goal awarded to Kosgey as he was dancing into the area cut inside to receive the pass but his marker got confused hence the goal.

The friendly was a comprehensive victory.
