Saturday the 20th of December 2003 marked another community services
function performed at the Thika Municipal stadium. This time around
the concerned groups were as usual Thika United football club,
Brookside dairy limited and a locally based youth organization calling
itself “NO LIMITS.” Brookside provided milk and some other products
while the “NO LIMITS” crew gave out loaves of Bread, squash and
Biscuits as a way of ensuring the street kids were well nourished.
The programme began at exactly 11 am, in the morning. Dressed up in
their their Brookside tracksuits, the players joined their colleagues
at town hall to receive a few highlights regarding the lined-up
activities to crown the day. This was done by the deputy social
services in the Thika municipal council who later on flagged off the
group to officially start their campaign.
The exercise involved collecting some extra food-stuffs from
various retail shops in the town and behind them was the Thika United
mini Bus wrapped in a “NO LIMIT” flag and inside, announcements
focusing on the event, was strongly done in a manner suggesting how
splendid the exercise was. At 1 p.m the entire participants /group
together with the desired group of street kids flocked the stadium to
fulfill their mission. The feeding went on smoothly despite some
tricks from the kids who were hiding and jumping again to the queue
pretending not to have been fed.
The process ended at 2.15 p.m. and the players departed the scene,
took their their lunch and headed for the Transparency cup-final at
Kasarani. The match was organized by the ICCG and Utalii carried the
day by whipping Gor Mahia 2-1.In a pulsating final watched by among
others, special envoys from different embassies At stake was ksh
750,000 for the 1st prize and 500,000 for the runners up. Third
position ksh 250,000, and 150,000, went to the fourth position
respectively.
ICCG is doing some recommendable job and it’s a high time for the
K.F.F to try and amend their style of governing football in this
nation as a way of appreciating the ICCG creativity. |
