Women’s soccer in Thika town is fast becoming popular its future looks bright. This is conditional, tough, on more emphasis being put on development. Particularly on grassroots level, this is what Thika united football club did when they started the ladies team a year ago. The team which started with a few girls from the neighboring estates has grown to a complete out fit.

Now the team has its players from as far as Nairobi who came knocking at Thika united door asking to join the team. The team trains twice a week i.e. Wednesday and Friday in the evening and is under the guidance of veteran player Lawrence Ngigi who holds an advance certificate in coaching from the Royal Dutch football academy. The team has been in serious training for the last one month gearing up for a one day ladies tournament which is supposed to kick off on 20th Feb. 05 at 9.am in the morning at Thika municipal stadium. This is the first major tournament of its kind in central province and Thika united ladies have promised to prove their critics wrong by being champions.

Thika united ladies has a lot of respect to their opponents. And that’s why they have in mind that it is not going to be easy but they are going to fight for it.

The Thika united management is behind the team and is determined to do anything beyond their reach to see that the team is there to stay. Just as they have done to the senior men team. Thika united ladies is a team for the future and we can see international callups very soon.

We at Thika united are trying to make future champions who will be able to stand up for their team and country and be counted among the best. Right now the ladies team is a senior team but very soon plans are underway to start girls youth program when funds will be available.
