MATCH REPORT KFF-PL Premier League Sunday August 10th, 2008 at Mombasa Municipal Stadium Ambrose Kamau | By Jimmie Kairu
Thika United kept alive their faint chances after a late goal from Ambrose Kamau in the 91st minute to scoop victory against Bandari FC at the Mombasa Municipal Stadium over the weekend.
The highly anticipated goal was derived form a pass through to Paul Anunda which the hosts keeper Wilson Obungu tried to deny but Deniss Omino was there to slightly place it for Ambrose who ensured supremacy through banking it into the net.
Ambrose who came in during the 80th minute after super midfielder Crispin Olando succumbed to an ankle injury was quick to react in different cases and his first touch of the ball nearly led to the first goal.
After the goal the Bandri team had evidently lost hope even when the center referee tried to add more minutes in favor of the team but the Mombasa fans who were greatly disappointed wanted the game to be through to avoid any embarrassments.
The final whistle made the whole team jump for joy with great excitement for the game was not a joke. As the home team was heavily raiding united side causing havoc and drama but all their efforts were fruitless, and they lived to regret missing three golden chances.
Thanks to Russell Kibet all the Bandari’s executions were not left unturned for whatsoever they did was an assurance that it will be cleared by Russell, as he gave the hosts strikers especially Mwenda Haji a rough time.
During the 89th minute his play nearly cost united after his cross passed through David Okello Uniteds keeper but there was no one to bank it in and that was the priceless mistake that made them regret for it was through that united countered a score.
The game started with quit an interesting touch with both teams looking for an early lead, under 20 Stephen Kiaritha was the first to counter during the first minute but both his shots and headers were caught by Obungu.
Odede Omino was heavily raining shots at Okello but they never got to target, a play from Abdulwahab Musa from Haji was a sure indication that the hosts meant business and were going for an early win.
A series of yellow cards were issued by the center referee Mr. Gedion Amwayi, bandari’s Hussein Abdul Razala for fouling international Ivan Maimba while Sebastian Hadiangu was booked for fouling Russell Kibet who made sure that Hadiangu never found the opportunity to deliver.
George Maina who had an impressive play making runs and delivering balls into the box as well as playing his role as a stopper extremely well was a nerve wreck to the hosts strikers too, however Maina was booked for fouling Hadiangu as he desperately looked for efforts of getting through the stopper.
Crispin Olando was as well booked for foul play though he had an impressive game was most composed and the Bandari fans loved him, for they were greatly fascinated with the way he portrayed himself and the way he kept the midfield strong.
His long passes to Kiaritha nearly yielded fruit but they were all punched by the keeper or headed off target by Kiaritha.
Though the whole team was calm nothing would have stopped them to attaining the goal and they are truly looking forward to playing Tusker FC this weekend.
